Turkish government will not apply populist economic policies, says PM

The government does not apply populist economic policies and will continue to avoid doing so, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu has said, stressing that there was “no lack of communication” between economy administration officials.

“Nobody should expect populism from the Turkish government in economic policies, or a static approach in such a dynamic conjuncture … Beyond all daily discussions, support for the real sector and price stability will make a difference in the end,” Davutoğlu said after meeting with the top management of the Central Bank on Nov. 5.

He also stressed that the rise in confidence in Turkey would accelerate the capital flow into the country, and refuted claims that certain players in the economic administration were at odds.

“Integration and complementariness between institutions matter a lot. It is of crucial importance for us that the Central Bank’s moves support other economic activities,” he said.
