Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli accused the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) of failing to follow through with its promises, speaking at a rally in the southern province of Adana on March 25.

“The AKP, which has significant political power in the government with its majority in Parliament, has failed to accomplish its promises in its propagandas and in its program,” said Bahçeli.

Bahçeli called on people to use their right to vote in the March 30 local elections and to evaluate the current situation of the country well while voting. He also urged the people to volunteer in taking positions at the ballot boxes on that day in order to prevent any wrongdoings. “The country is not managed well. Fifty-nine percent of our population of 76 million is living in poverty. Thirteen million people are living below the poverty line,” Bahçeli said.

Bahçeli also criticized the purges in the judiciary and police forces after a massive corruption and graft operation started on Dec. 17, 2013. He claimed the prime minister attempted to cover up graft allegations with these purges.
