A German girl of Turkish origin in the Hilden province of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany was recently attacked with nitric acid, daily Habertürk has reported.

A man wearing a hat and a scarf reportedly threw nitric acid on the 20-year-old girl, who was identified as Reyhan A., as she opened the door to leave her house.

"I ran to the door when I heard Reyhan screaming. I also got a bit of acid on my hand. I wish I had gotten all of it, but not my grandchild. All her face is burned now and she is struggling to stay alive," said Reyhan's grandmother, who witnessed the incident.

Reyhan is reportedly in critical condition.

Reyhan's ex-boyfriend, who is considered the only suspect at the moment, denied having any part in the attack. Police have launched an investigation into the event.
