Turkish foreign minister meets Inter-Parliamentary Union head

ANKARA

The Turkish foreign minister on Oct. 6 met with the head of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), a global organization of national parliaments, in the Turkish capital Ankara.

“Hosted IPU President Duarte Pacheco. We value parliamentary diplomacy. Will support IPU’s works on irregular migration,” Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said on Twitter.

Pacheco and an accompanying delegation were also received by Turkish Justice Minister Abdulhamit Gül at the Ministry of Justice.

During the meeting, Gül expressed his pleasure to host Pacheco.

What began in 1889 as a small group of parliamentarians, dedicated to promoting peace through parliamentary diplomacy and dialogue, IPU has since grown into a truly global organization of national parliaments, according to IPU official website.

Today it has 179 Member Parliaments, 13 Associate Members, and an increasing number of parliamentarians from all over the world are involved in its work.
