Turkish FM notifies envoys of summer reshuffle

A decree concerning new appointments for more than 40 ambassadorial posts at the Foreign Ministry is set to take effect shortly, with Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu having already personally notified the diplomats subject to the customary summer reshuffle.

In the reshuffle, young diplomats will be promoted, which has been the case since Davutoğlu took office as foreign minister in 2009.

The reshuffle involves key posts such as Baghdad and Kabul, as well as permanent missions to international organizations.

According to the related decree, three deputy undersecretaries will be leaving the capital city: Emine Birnur Fertekligil, currently in charge of Africa and multilateral political affairs, will become Turkey’s permanent representative at the United Nations Office in Vienna; Mehmet Fatih Ceylan, currently in charge of bilateral political affairs, will become the country’s permanent representative to the NATO; and Mehmet Hasan Göğüş, currently in charge of European affairs, will represent Turkey in the Austrian capital of Vienna.

Faruk Kaymakçı, the First Class Consul in Basra, will move to the capital city of Baghdad in order to become Turkey’s ambassador to Iraq. Turkey’s current ambassador to Bulgaria will become the country’s ambassador in Kabul.

Ferden Çarıkçı, the chief foreign affairs advisor for President Abdullah Gül, will become Turkey’s permanent representative at the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry’s current spokesperson, Levent Gümrükçü, who was appointed to this post in January, will become Turkey’s ambassador to Tbilisi.
