Turkish FM Davutoğlu chants slogan in Arabic with Syrian refugees

Foreign Minister Ahment Davutoğlu chanted a slogan in Arabic July 9 while addressing Syrian refugees in the Nizip district of the southeastern province of Gaziantep.

Davutoğlu saluted the crowd in Arabic at the beginning of his speech and chanted along with the Syrians’ slogan of “Vahid vahid Suri, Türki vahid,” which means “Turkey, Syria are a whole and brothers,” at the end of his speech.

The foreign minister, who visited the Nizip refugee camp with Family and Social Policies Minister Fatma Şahin on the first day of Ramadan, reflected on the meaning of Ramadan. “In our tradition families break the fast together on the first day of Ramadan. So we have come together today with our brothers on the Syria border.”

The foreign minister said he felt honored to be hosting 500,000 Syrian refugees, 200,000 of them in camps, in his country.
