Turkish flutist wins silver medal at Global Music Awards

CHICAGO

Turkish flutist and composer Burak Beşir on Dec. 18 was granted an “Outstanding Achievement” award by the Global Music Awards (GMA) for instrumental solo performance in his album “Passion.”

 “I feel really happy that I got the GMA award. I’ve been getting many positive reactions from people who have listened to my album,” Beşir told state-run Anadolu Agency.

Currently based in Los Angeles, Beşir said young musicians should always follow their pursuits.

“They should always dream a step further,” he added, noting that from now on he would concentrate on movie soundtracks.

Beşir’s award-winning album “Passion” includes his own compositions along with a mixture of tangos and operas.      

“Passion” also presents Turkish and Anatolian melodies that Beşir collaborated on with Jim Walker, an American flutist who played more than 700 soundtracks of Hollywood movies.

“I think ‘Passion’ is a very true word to describe my pursuit in life. Following your dreams, being passionate in what you are doing and unconditional love has always been my guide in life,” Beşir wrote on his official website.

Emine Sarı, another Turkish musician, has been awarded bronze medal for lyrics of song “On My Own,” which she wrote for American singer Nicky.
