Turkish firm to invest in wastewater sludge dewatering, power plants

Arasya Atıksu plans to produce electricity from the 1.2 million tons of industrial wastewater sludge in Turkey together with a foreign investment fund, according to a statement by the company.

The company and the fund will invest 100 million euros in the project to establish 12 solar active wastewater sludge dewatering and power plants.

 “Dewatering and sun-drying in greenhouses the wastewater of industrial plants not only saves nature but also becomes the raw material that produces electricity for investors,” read the statement.

Arasya Atıksu will build 4-megawatt power and solar active sludge drying plants in 12 cities in Turkey, from Tekirdağ in the west to Malatya in the east. It has already completed one plant in the southwestern province of Denizli.

“We are the Turkish distributor of Germany’s Huber company, which is a world leading supplier in the field of wastewater/sludge treatment and process engineering with more than 175-year experience. Huber has also solutions for sludge burning power plants,” said Arasya Atıksu chairman Aytuğ Güldamla.

“We will produce electricity by burning the sludge and cement factories will use the ash as raw material, so both the environment and the economy will gain,” Güldamla added.
