Turkish defense firm to help guard Uruguay’s borders

A Turkish defense firm has provided Uruguay with materials to protect its borders, the company announced late Jan. 4.Military electronics company Aselsan said the firm had delivered mobile border security systems to protect Uruguay’s land and sea borders.
In 2013, Aselsan won a $3.7 million contract to supply the mobile surveillance systems of the Uruguayan Army.
The delivery of the mobile surveillance systems, such as reconnaissance-surveillance radars and thermal cameras, has been completed, stated the company.
According to data from the Defense Industry Exporters’ Union (SSI), Turkey’s exports in the defense and aviation industries combined reached $1.39 billion in 2013.
Turkey’s defense exports for the first quarter of this year are valued at $322 million, a 20 percent increase over the same period last year, according to figures from the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TİM).
