A Turkish Cypriot court has suspended Prime Minister İrsen Küçük’s powers as the leader of the National Unity Party (UBP) in an interlocutory order finding a complaint on the issue appropriate.UBP deputy Ahmet Kaşif had filed a suit to the court objecting to the High Court decision taken at the UBP convention that took place on Oct. 21 and asked the court to freeze the powers of Küçük as the leader of the UBP.
Nicosia District Court judge Emine Dizdarlı said she found Kaşif’s complaint appropriate and suspended Küçük’s powers as UBP chairman in the interlocutory order. Dizdarlı said the decision of the High Court Chairmanship contradicts the charter of the UBP.
