Turkish company to build housing factory in Afghanistan

The government of Afghanistan signed a $11.4 million contract with a Turkish company on Jan. 7 to build a prefabricated housing factory in the country, according to an Afghan media outlet.  
    
Afghan Minister of Urban Development Sayed Mansour Naderi and Turkey’s Vefa Group head Orhan Güner signed the contract at the presidential palace in the capital Kabul. Afghan President Dr. Ashraf Ghani also attended the ceremony, 1TV News reported. 

The project will help the Afghan government construct prefabricated buildings for schools and hospitals in different parts of the country.      

Naderi said the factory will produce 300,000 cubic meters of prefabricated building materials annually, while the cost of construction will be reduced from $350 to $274 per meter.      

Ghani, meanwhile, appreciated Turkey’s cooperation with Afghanistan in various fields.

“We are not only two friends but also two Muslim brotherly countries and this relation brings us closer to each other,” he said.      

He thanked the Turkish company for launching such a beneficial project in Afghanistan, saying it would help his government construct schools and hospital buildings in far-flung parts of Afghanistan.
