The NATO Maintenance and Supply Agency (NAMSA) has awarded a Turkish company the tender to put out forest fires in Greece, together with a Russian company. The Greek government will have the final say on the matter, daily Milliyet reported on its website today.
The Greek ministry of citizen protection had requested NAMSA carry out this year's tender to rent 12 fire-fighting helicopters, because of corruption allegations regarding tenders carried out in previous years. NAMSA decided to rent five heavy helicopters from a Russian company and seven medium-sized helicopters from a Turkish company.
The decision has been delivered to the ministry of citizen protection.
