Turkish candied chestnut boss dies of heart attack

Chairman of Kafkas Co, a company quite popular for its candied chestnut, Atilla Tatveren, died on Oct. 20 of a heart attack.
 
Tatveren, deceased at 73, was one of the company’s second generation representatives, based in the northwestern Anatolian province of Bursa. He played great role in making Kafkas a global brand in producing candied chestnuts.

The candied chestnut is known to have been first started by Kafkas, which was launched by Ali Şakir Tatveren in Bursa in 1930.

After passing away, his children Atilla Tatveren and Yüksel Tatveren took over and developed the business, bringing in better facilities and introducing a wider product range. They also started franchising to make their products available all over Turkey. The company carries out its production at its 6,500 square meters indoor and 12,500 outdoor facilities.

Today, the company has franchisees across Turkey and exports to over 70 countries, including the U.S., France, Greece, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Japan and Canada, among others.
