Nilo’s work combines oil paints, canvas and sheet metal with a depth of human observation and introspection. Her large-scale paintings explore the relationships between art and artifice, often using repetition to highlight the absurdity of everyday costume. Likewise, Nilo’s grandiose compositions are coupled with photorealism-influenced brushwork to produce a larger-than-life experience that still retains her subject’s individuality.
Seven artists open up their inner lives in “Solitary Spaces,” an exhibition that follows singular visions through abstraction, surrealism and faithful representation. The pieces included demonstrate the explosive artistry that occurs when observation meets imagination. Language, graphic patterns, action and everyday objects all combine to create new worlds.
The exhibition asks people what they see inside their heads. It can be visited until May 17.
