Turkish army sets up 8th observation point in Idlib
ANKARA – Anadolu Agency
Turkish military on April 3 set up its eighth observation point in the northwestern Syrian province of Idlib, it stated.
In a statement, the Turkish General Staff said the observation point was established in accordance with the Astana agreement signed on Oct. 12, 2017 to monitor the cease-fire regime in the Idlib de-escalation zone.
Under the previously struck Astana agreement, Turkey is gradually establishing 12 “observation points” from Idlib’s north to south.
Located in northwestern Syria on the Turkish border, Idlib has faced intense attacks by the Bashar al-Assad regime after a civil war broke out in 2011.
Idlib has been outside the control of the al-Assad regime since March 2015 and has been overrun by military opposition groups and anti-regime armed organizations.
