A Turkish man who is alleged to be a lawyer for al-Qaeda cases in Turkey has been killed in Syria in clashes with government forces, daily Hürriyet reported.

Osman Karahan's death was confirmed by his brother Selahattin Karahan.

Karahan was the founder of Association for the Protection of Human Law (İHADER) and had defended Lui Sakka, an alleged high-ranking al-Qaeda member.

Karahan was detained in 2006 for aiding and abetting al-Qaeda but was then released due to a lack of evidence against him.
