Turkey’s smartphone love boosts tech market

Turkish consumers’ love of technology, particularly smartphones, has nourished the technology product market’s volume up to 7.2 billion Turkish Liras in the first quarter of 2013 by 23.1 percent growth over a year, making Turkey the most rapidly growing country among 20 European countries.The telecommunication sector has seen the highest growth and reached 2.4 billion liras, due to mainly the sales of smart phones, GfK TEMAX research results showed.
As the main driver of the market boost, the share of smartphones increased to 88 percent in the smart/mobile phones market. In the smartphone market alone, while the number of Android phones fell to 50 percent from 56 percent of last year, IOS models equaled their position in the market, possessing the other half.
“The information technologies sector had a bad performance in the first quarter of 2012 compared to 2011, but the first quarter of 2013 showed a relatively better performance,” the report also said.
