Turkey’s number of live births nearly 1.25 mln in 2018

Turkey's statistical institute (TÜİK) on May 17 stated the number of live births in the country was nearly 1.25 million.
"While the number of live births was 1,295,784 according to the revised 2017 data, it was 1 million 248 thousand 847 in 2018," the TÜİK said in a statement, adding 51.3% of live births were boys and 48.7% of live births were girls.
The total fertility rate in 2017 was 2.07, this rate has decreased to 1.99 children in 2018, this means that a woman gives approximately 1.99 live births during her reproductive life, the statement said.
"This showed that fertility remained below the population's replacement level of 2.10," it added.
The crude birth rate was 16.1 per 1,000 in 2017, this rate was 15.3 per 1,000 in 2018, TÜİK said.
"Crude birth rate means that the number of live births per thousand population," according to the statement.
It said the highest specific fertility rate was the in 25-29 age groups.
Since 2013, the adolescent fertility rate has decreased from 29 per 1,000 to 19 per 1,000 in 2018.
“Adolescent fertility rate means that the average number of live births per thousand women in 15-19 age group,” according to the TÜİK.
