The main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) will hold a “Republic and Democracy Meeting” in Istanbul’s Taksim Square on July 24, the party’s deputy chair Tekin Bingol has stated, as the government’s massive crackdown in the aftermath of the failed attempted military coup continues.“Our chairman and deputy chairs will join deputies and the people. We will state our anti-coup attitude clearly in the aftermath of the attempt by the junta that took place on the night of July 15. We will reiterate our belief and determination for democracy, the republic and the parliamentary system, without making party differentiation, with all our people,” Bingöl said on July 20.
