Turkey’s first aviation-themed park opens in Konya

Turkey’s first aviation-themed park called “Turkish Stars Park” has opened in the Central Anatolian province of Konya. Turkish Air Force’s “Türk Yıldızları” (Turkish Stars) air acrobatics team performed a show with seven jets in the opening ceremony on April 16.

The park, which was constructed by Konya Metropolitan Municipality on a 321,000-meter-square area, was opened with the participation of Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tahir Akyürek, Governor Muammer Erol, Combat Air Force and Air Missile Defense Commander Lt. Gen. Mehmet Şanver, three Justice and Development Party (AKP) deputies and citizens. 

Speaking in the ceremony, Akyürek said, “Türk Yıldızları” is “the apple of Turkish army’s and Air Force’s eye,” while stressing that the air acrobatics team is one of Konya’s significant values and brands. Akyürek added that they are “proud” to dedicate the park to “Türk Yıldızları.” 

After the team’s show, the pilots from “Türk Yıldızları” met with the audience and had their photos taken. 
An Airbus A300 type plane measuring 50 meters in wing width and 54 meters in height will serve as a restaurant on the 12,000-meter-square pond in the park. 

Two F-5 acrobatic jets that were previously used by “Türk Yıldızları” will be on display in the elliptical pools of the park. In addition, the park contains a museum, an amphitheater, an exhibition, walking and sports areas, playgrounds, a climbing wall, picnic spots and a parking area with 1,200 car capacity.
