Turkey's Changemakers: Women entrepreneurs make a difference with 'Micronet'
Through "Micronet: The Micro Entrepreneur Women’s Work Portal" project, 1740 women entrepreneurs received support.
On 20 July 2012, Turkey's Changemakers program hosts the Foundation for the Support of Women’s Work (FSWW).More than two years ago on May 23, 2010, the FSWW was featured on Turkey’s Changemakers. The FSWW’s founder Şengül Akçar makes a difference in women’s lives through MAYA which is the first micro-credit project for women in Turkey. With this project, Şengül Akçar seeks to support women entrepreneurs by improving their economic lives and creating new opportunities. Having received funding through Sabanci Foundation’s Social Development Grant Program, the “Micronet: The Micro Entrepreneur Women’s Work Portal” project continues to make a difference in women’s lives by helping them make their businesses more sustainable and long-lasting.
Through "Micronet: The Micro Entrepreneur Women’s Work Portal" project, 1740 women entrepreneurs received support from 50 mentors who are volunteers working in private sector. With this support, women form a network where they can exchange their knowledge and experiences. Micro entrepreneurs who do not know how to use a computer first receive computer training within the project. The project’s partners are: Corporate Volunteer Association, Youth for Habitat, First Step Women’s Cooperative, Ray of Hope Women’s Cooperative and Silk Road Women’s Cooperative.
