Turkey’s Çakır to officiate Real Madrid - Man United match

Cüneyt Çakır will referee this Tuesday's high-profile Champions League last-16 tie between Manchester United and Real Madrid.

The announcement was made by UEFA, Europe Football’s governing body, on March. 3.

The Real Madrid and Manchester United return game is one of the key matches of the round, after the first leg in Spain ended 1-1

The 37-year-old referee officiated Chelsea’s semifinal second-leg game against Barcelona at Camp Nou last year, as well as the Club World Cup final between Chelsea and Corinthians played at the Yokohama Stadium in Japan on Dec. 16, 2012.

He also officiated the Euro 2012 semifinal match between Spain and Portugal, in a landmark occasion for Turkish football.
