Turkey wants Asian vehicle quotas lifted

Turkey wants motor vehicles quotas in trade with Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan to be lifted, Turkish Economy Minister Zafer Çağlayan has said, speaking at a meeting of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Turkey has been exerting special efforts to boost regional cooperation with Turkic-speaking countries, Çağlayan said.

“Several important issues were taken up in the meeting,” he said. Turkey attracted $15 billion in international capital between 1921 and 2003, and received direct foreign capital worth $115 billion between 2003 and 2011, Çağlayan said. “We are ready to share our experiences in this with our brother countries,” he said. Turkey’s trade volume with Kazakhstan was about $4 billion, with Azerbaijan $3.4 billion and with Kazakhstan $232 million last year, Çağlayan said, adding that these figures should be boosted.

Azerbaijan is ready to improve economic cooperation with Turkic-speaking countries, Azerbaijan’s Economic Development Minister Shahin Mustafayev said. Cooperation between Turkey and Azerbaijan has taken on a different dimension with the Trans-Anatolian Gas Pipeline agreement, Mustafayev said.
