Turkey to examine Saudi consulate over missing journalist
ANKARA
Turkey’s Foreign Ministry said Saudi Arabia has allowed the examination of the consulate building in Istanbul a week after Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi went missing.
“An examination of the consulate building will be carried out as part of an ongoing investigation,” said Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hami Aksoy, upon a question on Oct. 9. He also said Saudi authorities have expressed their readiness to cooperate with the relevant Turkish government bodies over the disappearance of the Saudi journalist.
Khashoggi went missing on Oct. 2 after he visited the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. Turkish officials expressed their concern that the journalist might have been murdered at the consulate. The Istanbul Prosecutor’s Office had launched an investigation into the case.
