Turkey submits new evidence on FETÖ head's extradition

Turkey submitted fresh evidence on the extradition of the FETÖ leader to the U.S., according to the Ankara's justice minister on June 12.

Abdulhamit Gül told Anadolu Agency "fresh" and "key" evidence was submitted during his meeting with his American counterpart, William Barr, in Washington which he said was "productive" and hoped would "yield good results.”

FETÖ and Fetullah Gülen are accused of orchestrating a defeated coup on July 15, 2016 in Turkey which left 251 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.

The FETÖ leader has lived in self-imposed exile in Pennsylvania since 1999.

Ankara requested Gülen's extradition from the U.S. several times.

Washington has yet to move towards extraditing Gülen.

"We shared evidence and documents that reveal the direct relationship between July 15 coup attempt and FETÖ. We submitted this fresh and key evidence directly to Mr. Attorney General," he said.

He did not comment on the content of the evidence.

Gül said Barr told him he would monitor the issue and will take care of the process.
