Turkey nominates Aran to regional body

Aran will serve for two years in RCC from 2012 if he is elected for the post.

Turkey has nominated Ambassador Bozkurt Aran for secretary-general of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), the Hürriyet Daily News has learned.

The fourth annual meeting of the RCC will be held in Belgrade, Serbia, on June 13 and is expected to endorse the nomination proposal for the secretary-general of the Regional Cooperation Council.

If Aran is elected for the post, he will serve for two years from 2012. Serbia and Slovenia are also likely to nominate candidates for the post. In the upcoming meeting, the RCC secretary-general, Hido Biscevic, will present the organization’s “Annual Report on Regional Cooperation in South East Europe 2011- 2012” and the RCC Secretariat’s “Self-Assessment Report on the First Year of Implementation of the RCC Strategy and Work Programme 2011-2013.”

The RCC focuses on promotion and enhancement of regional cooperation in Southeast Europe (SEE) and supports the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of the aspiring countries. RCC was officially launched at the meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) in 2008, as the successor of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe. The RCC provides operational capacities to and works under the political guidance of the SEECP.
