Turkey, Mexico sign Strategic Cooperation Framework

Turkey and Mexico signed a Strategic Cooperation and Partnership Framework for the 21st Century on Dec. 17, during the Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto’s visit to Ankara.

Turkey is willing to energize the potential of economic cooperation with Mexico, President Abdullah Gül said during a joint press conference and signature ceremony with the visiting president following their talks.

“We really wish to energize the existing huge economic potential Turkey and Mexico enjoy. As one of the most important countries in Latin America, Mexico will open its geography to Turkey and Turkey, in turn, will serve as the gateway for Mexico to the Middle East, the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Russian Federation and the Balkans. Therefore, we attach great importance to the interaction between the business circles of the two countries,” Gül said.

Mexican President Nieto, for his part, said both countries offer opportunities for themselves with mutual convergence.

“Turkey is a door opening to Europe and Asia, while Mexico is a door opening to America and the Caribbean. This situation will pave the way for the convergence of both of the two countries and the accession of the two countries to these regions,” Nieto was quoted saying by the Anadolu Agency.

The Mexican President’s state visit, which took place with Gül’s invitation, marked the first-ever presidential-level visit from Mexico to Turkey.

After the delegate’s talks, the signature ceremony was held and 11 important agreements were signed by the relevant departments from both of the governments, along with a Strategic Cooperation and Partnership Framework.
