Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu has announced that the government has decided to lift visa requirements for Polish citizens, to "boost interaction" between the two countries.

Davutoğlu made the remarks during a joint press briefing with his Polish counterpart Ewa Kopacz on Dec. 8, following the two leaders’ private meeting and a working dinner in the Polish capital of Warsaw, where he is paying a two-day working visit.

“In response, Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz has promised to increase the frequency of flights between the two countries,” he said, adding that his Polish counterpart also pledged full support to Turkey for the Schengen visa liberalization.

“We hope both the air transportation will increase and Turkish citizens will have the chance to freely move throughout Europe with the support of Poland,” Davutoğlu said.

The prime minister was set to meet representatives of the Turkish community in Poland and will deliver a speech on Dec. 9 at the closing ceremony of the 600th anniversary celebration at Poland’s leading art institution Teatr Wielki, where a number of Turkish artists will be present.

Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmuş, Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci and Culture and Tourism Minister Ömer Çelik were also accompanying the prime minister during the visit.
