Turkey hosts more than 42,000 Syrians in camps

Currently 42,682 Syrians, who have fled violence in their country, are being sheltered in 10 camps along the 911-kilometer long Turkey-Syria border.

A total of 864 people including a general and four colonels have crossed the border into Turkey since July 16, according to Anatolia News Agency.

Turkey’s crisis management center is building a new migration camp near the town of Karkamış in the province of Gaziantep, which borders Syria, with the capacity to host 10,000 Syrian migrants. The United Nations says the number of Syrian refugees who have sought help since April has almost tripled, reaching 112,000 people. Jordan has seen 33,400 refugees come into the country, while 30,900 have arrived in Lebanon. Another 7,900 have sought sanctuary in Iraq.
