Turkey attained a record-high figure of hazelnut exports in 2012 at 265,000 tons, according to figures provided by the Trabzon Commodity Exchange in the Black Sea Region, the heart of the hazelnut sector in Turkey.

Turkey earned $1.8 billion in hazelnut exports last year, the second-highest yearly income for the item after 2005. Turkey holds a large part of the world’s hazelnut production and exports, said the Trabzon Commodity Exchange, adding that Turkey was exporting hazelnuts to nearly 100 countries.

Revenues from hazelnut exports were $1.9 billion in 2005.
