Ankara and
Brussels are expected to take concrete steps for a visa deal this month, after
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan reportedly gave the green light for the
signing of a Readmission Agreement in exchange for visa liberalization with the
EU for Turkish citizens.
Turkey will approve the Readmission Agreement for third country nationals, while talks for the start of the visa-free regime for Turkish citizens will simultaneously begin, according to the road map.
Ankara could halt the accord if the European Council does not allow a visa facilitation for Turkish citizens after the Readmission Agreement being implemented.
However, if the process goes smoothly after the deal is signed, Turkish citizens will be able to enter Europe without a visa in three years' time.
