Turkey claims silver at top women's volleyball event
NANJING, China
Turkish women’s dream run in China ended on July 1 as the United States was crowned the first-ever Volleyball Nations League champion with a 3-2 (17-25, 25-22, 26-28, 25-15, 15-7) victory over a resilient Turkey.
Despite the loss in the final, Turkey set the event, organized for the first with its new format, alight with its run to the finals - having only secured it spot in the final six with a win over Germany in its second last group match.
After being steamrolled 3-0 by the U.S. in its opening finals match, the Turkish women rebounded for a 3-2 win over Serbia that squeaked them into the final four, before they themselves rolled Brazil 3-0 on June 30 to make it through to the ultimate match.
