Turkey calls on UN to back

ANKARA

The Turkish Foreign Ministry has issued a statement urging the U.N. Security Council to back an Arab League road map for Syria.

“The Arab League’s call for support on its Jan. 22 action plan must not be left unanswered and it must be stressed that international community is determined to take its responsibility in Syria,” said the statement, released late Jan. 24. The international community must “send a message to the Syrian people that they are not alone in the face of violence and oppression.”

Erdoğan called Putin

The loss of lives in Syria due to violent and collective oppression is a cause for serious concern, and Turkey takes seriously the Arab League’s attitude and efforts aiming to present a plan for solution over a crisis, it said. The Arab League’s decision of Jan. 22 shows that the Syrian administration is not acting to fulfill its obligations, the statement added. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, late Jan. 24. and discussed bilateral relations, the issue of energy, and the recent developments in Syria.
