A meeting between senior officials from Turkey and the European Union will be held in June upon a common understanding between the two parties, Turkey’s Foreign Ministry has announced.

“The Turkey - EU Association Committee established under the Treaty of Ankara meets regularly every year on dates agreed between the parties. In May, routine working visits of a technical nature to Turkey by the EU Commission are planned to take place. In this context, a common understanding was reached with the EU to hold this year’s Turkey-EU Association Committee meeting in June,” the Foreign Ministry said in an official written statement released late on April 4.

Earlier on April 4, in a report posted on its website, Hürriyet Daily News referred to a senior Turkish diplomat who said the meeting was postponed to June by mutual will in order to garner more comprehensive content in the meantime.

“The meeting was scheduled to take place in early April. Then we postponed it to April 15 and our latest decision is to hold it in June,” the Turkish diplomat, speaking under the customary condition of anonymity, told the Daily News.
