Turkish actress Türkan Şoray has received an honorary award at the 18th Nuremberg Film Festival in Germany. The opening program of the festival took place in the Tafelhalle Culture Center hosted by West Germany Radio Television presenter Aslı Sevindim.The festival opened with a screening of Uğur Yücel’s new feature, “Soğuk” (Cold), after which Yücel issued the award to Şoray after speaking at length about her place in Turkish cinema. Şoray thanked the audience and festival committee for the honor.
The 10-day festival will see a total of eight movies compete, judged by jury members consisting of German director Michael Verhoeven, screenwriter Reis Çelik, Robin Greene, movie critic Necala Algan, journalist Cornelia Klauss and actor Engin Altan Düzyatan.
The event also hosts Turkey’s consul to Nuremberg Ece Öztürk Çil, Neremberg mayor Dr. Ulrich Maly, Festival Coordinator Ayten Akyıldız, as well as Turkish and German directors.
The festival will conclude on March 24, when the awards are issued.
