TSE audit reveals that elevators have flaws

The Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) has found that 62 percent of 13,000 elevators audited in Turkey this year were not in good operating condition.

Since January the TSE has audited 13,000 elevators in 20 different provinces in Turkey, according to TSE President Hulusi Şentürk.

“We found that 62 percent of these elevators were flawed. Some had broken cables, some opened their doors before reaching the required floor,” he said. Elevators used by private companies had a flaw rate of five to ten percent, according to Şentürk.
“It’s impossible to understand. Our auditing rate is 180 Turkish Liras, but there are some auditing firms out there that drop as low as 60 liras to examine the elevators. I don’t know what kind of audit they can possible provide,” he said. Şentürk also that it is important to note that imported items are not required to receive a quality CE certificate from the TSE.
