Transparency ‘a must in business’

Transparency in the business world is a must and fair competition principles must work correctly, Doğan Holding Honorary Chairman Aydın Doğan has said at a ceremony to grant prizes to young executives in Turkey.

“A state must absolutely levy taxes. Those who do not pay their taxes regularly will fail in a test of patriotism in my opinion. Workers must receive recompense for their work and entrepreneurs must be rewarded for the efforts and capital they have invested. This is only possible with a healthy, social, fair and lasting economic structure. As a businessman, I believe in a free market economy, but this does not require irregularity in the market,” Doğan said Nov. 29 in the evening at the Istanbul ceremony jointly organized by Capital, a local business and economy magazine, and whisky brand Johnnie Walker.

Doğan emphasized the need for neutral regulatory authorities to provide a healthy economic environment, and also praised Turkey’s economic performance over the last ten years, saying Turkey had taken its place among the world’s great economies.

He was accompanied by his spouse Sema Doğan.

Uğur Genç, the chief executive officer of Memorial HealthGroup, won first place in this year’s competition. Pınar Abay, general manager of ING Bank Turkey him in second. Mete Güney, general manager of Master Card Southeast Europe, took third place.

Candidates were chosen from among Turkish executives aged 40 and below.
