Trabzonspor parts ways with coach Halilhodzic

Vahid Halilhodzic, who took the helm at Trabzonspor after steering Algeria to a successful 2014 World Cup, had been complaining about the quality of his squad and players since the first day on the job.

Turkish Spor Toto Super League club Trabzonspor has parted ways with its Bosnian manager, Vahid Halilhodzic, in a mutual agreement, the club announced Nov. 9.

According to a statement on the club’s website, the parties mutually agreed to terminate Halilhodzic’s contract with the club after four months as head coach. “The club thanks him for his efforts and dedication during the time that he managed the team,” the statement read.

Halilhodzic will be reportedly paid 1.6 million euros in compensation.

According to reports on Turkish media, Trabzonspor has already agreed a deal with former Fenerbahçe and Turkish national team coach Ersun Yanal to replace Halilhodzic.

Yanal resigned as Fenerbahçe coach in August  amid media reports of disagreements with club chairman Aziz Yıldırım that included accusations about the coach’s personal life, as well as reported anger that players were given time off despite lackluster preseason performances.

Halilhodzic, who took the helm at Trabzonspor after steering Algeria to a successful 2014 World Cup, had been complaining about the quality of his squad and players since the first day on the job despite the club signing 22 new players since the end of last season.

The Bosnian coach also often fell victim to his temper and was sent off three times since he joined Trabzonspor.

Trabzonspor was in 12th position in the standings with nine points after eight weeks of games.
Meanwhile in UEFA Europa League Group L, the Black Sea Storm is in second spot with seven points with two games remaining in the group stage.
