Tour bus carrying Georgian students overturns in Turkey’s Giresun, 38 injured

A total of 38 people were injured early on July 16 when a tour bus carrying a group of Georgian students overturned in the Eynesil district of the Black Sea province of Giresun, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

The foreign-plated bus, which was driving a dance group aged between nine and 13 from Georgia to Bulgaria initially crashed into a light pole at around 5:00 a.m., according to preliminary information.

Some 38 on board, mostly children, were injured in the accident.

Health and firefighting units from Giresun and the neighboring province of Trabzon were immediately dispatched to the scene and provided first aid. One person was later rescued from the overturned bus after having been stranded inside.

The injured were transferred to nearby hospitals in Giresun and Trabzon. Some 16 were later discharged after receiving treatment while the other 22 have still been receiving medical care in hospitals in the two provinces.

Meanwhile, an investigation into the accident has been ongoing.
