Top election body issues limited election ban

The broadcasting of opening ceremonies, public speeches, survey results or estimates on the upcoming Nov. 1 polls will be prohibited as of Oct. 22 during the run-up to the election, the state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

Research, surveys, estimates and opinion calls on the November election cannot be made public through any form of broadcasting or publication in a manner that could have either a negative or positive bearing on candidates from a political party, according to series of prohibitions issued by the Supreme Election Board (YSK), Turkey’s top election body.

Political parties and independent deputy candidates eligible to be listed on the Nov. 1 ballot can only disseminate their election propaganda by publishing ads in print media and making verbal statements on websites, as well as using visual media, until the end of the defined campaign period.

Within the same period, the prime minister, cabinet ministers, and MPs will also not be able to use their official cars in election campaigning.

In addition, no public employees will be allowed to take part in election campaigning visits.

Meanwhile, campaigning by sending e-mails, voice mails, video calls and written statements directly to citizens will be prohibited, apart from those sent to party members.
