Three soldiers killed, four wounded as building collapses in Sur during military operation

DİYARBAKIR
Three soldiers were killed and four others wounded when a building collapsed while soldiers were inside due to an ongoing military operation in the Sur district of southeastern Diyarbakır province, the Turkish Army has announced.

According to the statement released by the Army, the building collapsed on Feb. 19 while seven soldiers were inside.

“Four of our heroic comrades-in-arms were lightly wounded,” the statement said, while three soldiers could not be saved “despite all efforts.”

While the armed forces did not disclose the cause of the collapse, Doğan News Agency has reported that a bomb detonated by outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants destroyed the building.

Militants reportedly detonated a bomb they previously placed inside the building in Sur’s Hasırlı neighborhood, using a remote detonator.
