‘The Wild Pear Tree’ announced as Turkey’s Oscar entry

Director Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s latest film “Ahlat Ağacı” (The Wild Pear Tree) was announced on Aug. 17 as Turkey’s Oscar entry for the 91st Academy Awards next year under the category of Best Foreign Film.

A selective committee of 17 people, including Culture and Tourism Ministry officials and cinema professionals, has evaluated 12 films and selected “The Wild Pear Tree” for the 91st Academy Awards, which will be held in February 2019.

The film made it to the world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this year. It was also one of the Golden Palm Award contenders.

“The Wild Pear Tree” depicts the story of a young writer trying to find money to publish his book. During his trip to his native village, the young man comes across new discoveries about his father.

We witness the encounter of the sad destinies of the two men.
