GAZIANTEP – Doğan News Agency
Ahmet Şireci, whose firm Şireci Tekstil figures among Turkey’s 500 biggest companies, and an employee of his were returning to Gaziantep’s city center from the company’s plant in the city's outskirts when another car cut infront of theirs, intentionally smashing into their vehicle. Two unidentified men emerged from the car and kidnapped Şireci before pulling away.
An extensive investigation was launched after the incident was reported to police, who were called to the scene by the employee accompanying Şireci.
Şireci’s whereabouts remain unknown as the kidnappers have not contacted the relatives of the businessmen, according to the police. All security cameras along the road leading to the scene where the incident took place are being analyzed, police said. People with professional ties to Şireci are also being interrogated.
Şireci founded his company in the late 1970s, starting with the production of threads and towels. The company became a major thread manufacturer, operating across four plants located at organized industrial zones near Gaziantep. It mainly exports to buyers in Britain, France, Poland, Russia, Ukraine and Northern African countries.
