Tehran builds nuclear crisis headquarters

TEHRAN

Iran’s official news agency reported the country has established headquarters for managing nuclear crises.

The report by IRNA said the headquarters will be in charge of monitoring and confronting nuclear threats and pollution as well as improving public awareness, The Associated Press reported. The move is seen a part of preparations for increasing use of

nuclear energy. The report also said Fereidoun Abbasi, Iran’s nuclear chief, will run the headquarters operation under the civil
defense agency.

‘Assassination group’

Meanwhile, Iran’s intelligence ministry said it is holding more than 15 Iranian and foreign suspects belonging to an Israeli-linked “assassination” network, according to media reports on April 17. It also said it had uncovered a spy base run by Israel’s Mossad in an unspecified neighboring country.

“So far 15 people, holding Iranian birth certificates and foreigners, have been arrested,” Agence France-Presse quoted the ministry as saying in a statement. The statement said the group’s mission “was to identify and assassinate one of our nation’s experts and to bomb some of the nation’s installations using professionally made technical tools.”
