TAV receives ‘world’s best airport project’ award for Madinah Airport

Constructed in Madinah by TAV Construction, the Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz Airport Project has been selected as the “world’s best airport project” at the Global Construction Summit in New York organized by the Engineering News Record (ENR).

TAV Construction was awarded at the 3rd Global Construction Summit organized by ENR, the company said in a written statement on Sept. 11. 

Undertaken by Turkey’s TAV Construction, Madinah Airport is the first airport privatization project in Saudi Arabia.

TAV Construction Deputy General Manager Cumhur Kaur, who is responsible for Saudi Arabia and Africa, said the company was rising in importance with its projects. 

“We have undertaken projects, particularly in Turkey and the Gulf region, with a total contract value of more than $17.2 billion. We are listed as the top company in airport construction category in the annual listings of ENR magazine,” Kaur said.

TAV and its partners, Al Rajhi Group and Saudi Oger, won the tender held in June 2012 for the operating rights of Madinah Airport and started construction of the new terminal immediately. The 153,000-square meter terminal building has 32 passenger boarding bridges, 26 auxiliary buildings, two runways and three parallel taxi paths along with the main terminal building, according to the statement.
