Tanita Tikaram comes to Istanbul
ISTANBUL – Hürriyet Daily News
This year Efes Pilsen will be bringing Tanita Tikaram to Istanbul for a concert on April 19 at Ghetto. Tikaram is known for her hits “Twist in My Sobriety” and “Good Tradition.”Her music career started 25 years ago as she sang in bars and clubs. The German-born British pop folk singer and writer will be singing her Turkish audience new songs from her new album, which she released in 2012. Tikaram’s eighth studio album, “Can’t Go Back,” was released in September 2012. The first single, “Dust On My Shoes,” was released digitally the same year. Tikaram began recording her eighth studio album in 2010 in Los Angeles, California and released two “teasers” from the album on her website in June 2011. She played some “acoustic sessions” in Europe from September to November 2011, her first tour in 10 years.
Volatile musical career
Her musical career stumbled in 1995, after she released “Lovers in the City,” which she co-produced with Thomas Newman. The album was a commercial failure and in 1996 her contract with WEA was ended with the release of a best of compilation. She then signed to Mother Records. In 1998 she released “The Cappuccino Songs,” which was produced by Marco Sabiu. Again, commercial success eluded her. She then retired from the music scene for several years.
