The Taksim Research and Education Hospital will be moved to Gaziosmanpaşa within two months, according to Health Minister Mehmet Müezzinoğlu, who announced the decision during an iftar event for health personnel.Müezzinooğlu said a new hospital would be built in place of the old one, while the original Taksim hospital would be moved to Gaziosmanpaşa.
“All medical equipment and arrangements are ready right now. We are hoping to open the hospital ahead of the the Feast of Sacrifice holiday. Once it’s opened, we will begin demolishing and reconstructing the Taksim building,” he said.
The minister also spoke about the situation of health personnel hiring, stating that nurses who were left unemployed a decade ago, were now in great demand with the growing sector.
“Have no worries with regard to the future, tomorrow will be better than today. We will look at the future with hope and trust, because we love this country, and this country loves us,” Müezzinoğlu said.
Security concerns
He also highlighted the importance of each individual in the health sector, as well as the significance of strong education. “No health will come to Turkey without the universities. We cannot carry Turkey to a better place without our nurses, family doctors, and midwives. We are all valuable and important like columns of a building,” Müezzinoğlu said.
The minister also spoke on the security concerns of health personnel, in light of alarming recent instances of violence against doctors by relatives of patients.
“We don’t want to put more security between the patient and the doctor, because that relationship has a certain sense of trust that is beyond that of a parent-child or spouses. We do not want to ensure that trust with legal and security regulations. Regulations requiring the punishment for those who inflict violence is already in the planned changes. We will give the authority to deal with those who touch our doctors and nurses to the judges,” Müezzinoğlu said.
