Support for excavations on the rise

Turkish Culture and Tourism Ministry’s support for archaeological excavations, which was 1,877,915 Turkish Liras in 2002, increased by 17 fold this year.According to information provided by the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums, a total of 532 archaeological works, including 157 diggings and 98 archaeological surface surveys, have been planned this year. Some of these plans have been finished, some are still continuing and some have not been started yet.
Financial support from the ministry reached 31,903,928 liras as of September this year.
The excavations, carried out Turkish and foreign academics, are also supported by private institutions and sponsor companies.
