Sunexpress to make İzmir transfer hub

Sunexpress, a Turkish Airlines-Lufthansa joint venture, aims to make the Aegean city of İzmir a transfer point to Europe with 219 weekly flights.Sunexpress Assistant General Manager Hacı Say told a press conference on Oct. 19 that since 2006 the airline had conducted almost 70,000 flights and carried 9.5 million passengers from its İzmir hub. Say added that they planned to provide 20 international and 15 domestic destinations for a total of 35 destinations.
“We are the airline with the most flights from İzmir. We like İzmir and we are happy that İzmir is becoming Turkey’s new transfer hub,” said Say. He also said Sunexpress captured a 24 percent market share within the first nine months of the year, propelling the airline into second place both with its international and domestic routes.
