A student in the Turkish Mediterranean province of Antalya has filed a complaint on four police officers, alleging he was beaten during a street protest.

Feyyaz İmrak, a 22-year-old university student, claimed he was beaten by four police officers while he was taking photographs during a protest at Akdeniz University.

İmrak said a clash between the protesters and the police erupted during the protest concerning the killing of two protesters in the Lice district of Diyarbakır last week, during which a police officer hit him in the back and tried to prevent him from taking pictures of the brawl.

He said he was attacked again when he was taking pictures of the students who were detained. Four civilian officers then hit İmrak and threatened to stab him, he said. Another police head-butted him and broke his nose. İmrak subsequently filed a doctor report, saying he would be unable to function for two weeks.

“They are the police. They can beat you and swear at you and you cannot do anything about it,” İmrak quoted one of the officers as saying.
